GUIYANG, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a partial collapse of an unfinished building Sunday in southwest China's Guizhou Province has risen to seven, the rescue headquarters said.A mold supporting structure in the corridor between two halls at the International Conference and Exhibition Center under construction in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou, collapsed at around 11:30 a.m., burying workers working at the area, said a spokesman for the rescue headquarters.Rescuers found 26 workers who were rushed to hospital. Seven of the workers were proclaimed dead shortly upon arrival at hospital, one more seriously injured.Altogether seven remained hospitalized, and another 12 were discharged from hospital after some treatment.The police were investigating the cause of the accident.

TAIPEI, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou said Monday that negotiating and signing a wide-ranging economic pact with the Chinese mainland was "absolutely necessary" and "needs to be done quickly."Ma made the remarks here when attending a gathering for Taiwan business people with business on the mainland. The only round of talks so far were held in Beijing on Jan. 26. The proposed agreement mainly includes reducing tariffs, guaranteeing investment and protecting intellectual property.Economic ties between the mainland and Taiwan have warmed in recent years, with direct air and sea transport links and postal services, as well as regular passenger charter flights connecting the island with the mainland.

QINGDAO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A cold front is worsening the icing situation in the coast off east China's Shandong Province, which has just been temporarily relieved from China's worst sea ice in three decades, officials said Tuesday.North China Sea Branch (NCSB) of the State Oceanic Administration issued a sea ice alert Tuesday, the first since Jan. 27 when temperature climbed and ice started to melt.Ice in the Liaodong Bay and northern Yellow Sea extended 10 and 9 nautical miles respectively to 79 and 26 nautical miles on Tuesday, according to the NCSB.The extension of ice in the Bohai Bay and Laizhou Bay can not be measured due to heavy fog. Ice in the Liaodong Bay is likely to keep on expanding in the coming five days, said Shang Jie, a forecaster with NCSB."Icing in the Liaodong Bay and northern Yellow Sea will expand significantly and that of the other two bays will develop at a slower pace," Shang added.Icing first appeared in early January. Thick ice threatened ship navigation, anchoring and operations at ports, impacted local fishery and stranded some people on islands. NCSB had to issue sea ice alerts everyday between Jan. 12 and 27.

BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Some foreign diplomats and journalists based in Beijing Sunday were invited to watch Road of Rejuvenation, a music-and-dance epic highlighting China's twists and turns in the past 170 years.The gala at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) was presented by more than 1,000 performers, featuring China's modern and contemporary history with chorus, dances, and stage screens.Iwona Rogacka-Hu, an officer with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, said every step of the country's progress was presented clearly in the epic gala and she was moved by the themes of the mother and motherland.Peter A. Fischer, a Swiss correspondent with Zurich Times (NZZ) Beijing Office, said he saw many battles and difficult times in China's modern history through the show."I hope these will never come again, and China will grow more prosperous and open further up," Fischer said.The gala was produced to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in October 2009. BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday released an inclusive list of illustrations on medicine use as guidance for doctors in writing prescriptions. It is the first state-level list of its kind in the country.The list illustrates what each kind of medicine should be used for, but it is not mandatory. Medicines on the list include all those on the National Basic Medicine Catalogue and the Catalogue of Drugs for Basic National Medical Insurance, and some other frequently used medicine, the ministry said.Cao Guirong, president of the Chinese Hospital Association, said at the release ceremony that compilation of the list borrowed the experience of developed countries and the World Health Organization (WHO) while taking into account China's geographic features and clinical therapeutic habits.It took two years for more than 100 domestic medical and pharmaceutical experts to complete the list, Cao said. It would be handed out to hospitals nationwide within the next few days in an effort to promote better medical service.
