TIANJIN, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged Tianjin Municipality in north China to step up opening and reform of its Binhai New Area.     Wen made the remark during his inspection tour in the coastal municipality on the sidelines of the 2008 Summer Davos Forum which was held here on Saturday and Sunday. In all, it is 2,270 square km and has a population of 1.4 million.     Lying between China's capital and the Bohai Gulf, the area has been decided by the State Council, or the Cabinet, to be one of the key economic powers in the country.     Taking an intercity high-speed railway shuttle from Beijing, the Premier asked the administrators of the shuttle line to provide a safe, fast and convenient service for people living in the two cities.     After arriving at the Binhai New Area, Premier Wen inspected some industry zones near the port. He was accompanied by Tianjin's Communist Party chief Zhang Gaoli.     Wen attended an opening ceremony for an assembly factory of the Airbus A320 model in the area.     "The Binhai New Area should take the advantages of various economic policies given by the central government and constantly improve its abilities of innovation and international competition," said the premier.     During his visit to the city, Wen also went to local households to convey his greetings of the National Day, which falls on Oct. 1.     When visiting a supermarket in the old community of Tianjin, Premier Wen asked the supermarket to ensure the quality of the products on sale.     He also went to a children's hospital where many parents sent their babies to have medical examinations in lieu of the toxic milk scandal.     The premier urged doctors in the hospital to carefully examine every child and to set parent's hearts to rest.

GUANGZHOU, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said unswerving confidence and arduous work are needed to achieve the goals of a steady and relatively fast economic development and control of soaring consumer prices in the country.     Wen visited Guangdong Province - the country's reform and opening-up forerunner, on Saturday and Sunday, for research on current domestic economic situation. Wen Jiabao paid an inspection tour to Guangdong on Saturday to investigate and research the province's economic situation.The premier visited steel, shoes, digital machinery and high-tech enterprises in Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen to know their production, sales and products development.     More efforts should be made in the research and development and improvement of technological levels to create home-made brands and increase competitiveness, he said.     Just as with the whole nation, Guangdong has a good social and economic situation, but also faces many new difficulties and problems, Wen said. Some exports-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises in the Pearl River Delta area have felt the increasing impact of the world's economic growth slowdown and shrinking foreign demands, he noted.     The fundamental way to deal with the challenges is to deepen reform and opening up and promote development in a scientific way, said the premier.     During the visit, Wen talked with staff and managers of enterprises and urged them to attach importance to innovation.     The key to the development of a country, a nationality and an enterprise is innovation, Wen said. Only continuous innovations can enable the Chinese nation stand up in the world and enterprises become leaders of their industries, he said.     Guangdong has made great achievements in economic and social development in the past 30 years, realized a historic jump and contributed a lot to the country's reform and opening up and modernization construction, Wen said. The province should continue to take the lead in the country's reform and opening up, he added.

BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin is urging to cultivate more farmers who not only plant but also know the ABCs of technology and management, since the country is seeking new ways to promote rural development.     "We should foster many more 'new-style' farmers who are educated and who know techniques and the basics of sales and management," said Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, adding that rural areas should use urban development as a catalyst. TOKYO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda signed here Wednesday a six-point Sino-Japanese joint statement on all-round promotion of their strategic and mutually beneficial relations.     BILATERAL RELATIONS     Both sides agree that the Sino-Japanese relationship is one of the most important bilateral ties for both countries. China and Japan have great influence and shoulder solemn responsibilities for peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.     Long-term peaceful and friendly cooperation is the only choice of the two countries. Both sides are dedicated to promoting a strategic and mutually beneficial relationship in an all-round way to realize the lofty goal of peaceful coexistence, friendship from generation to generation, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development. China values Japan's status and role in the United Nations and is willing to see Japan play a bigger and more constructive role in international affairs.     ISSUE OF TAIWAN     Japan reiterates adherence to its stance declared in the Japanese-Sino Joint Statement on the Taiwan issue.     ALL-AROUND COOPERATION     Both sides agree to a mechanism for high-level regular visits between leaders of the two nations, strengthen communication and dialogue between the governments, parliaments and political parties of the two countries, enhance exchange of views on bilateral ties, domestic and foreign policies, and the world situation. The two sides will also increase the exchange of high-level visits in the security sector to promote mutual understanding and trust.     The two sides pledge to expand the exchanges of media, sister cities, sports and civilian groups between the two countries, and consistently promote exchanges of youngsters in a bid to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.     Both sides decide to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including energy, environment, trade, investment, information and communication technology, finance, food and product safety, protection of intellectual property rightand business environment.     They are also keen on the development of bilateral cooperation in farming, forestry, fishery, transportation, tourism, water resources, medical care and others sectors.     Japan and China will make an effective use of the summit economic talks between the two countries proceeding from a strategic perspective.     The two nations also pledge to work together and make the East China Sea a sea of peace, cooperation and friendship.     The two sides agree that China and Japan, as two important countries in the Asia-Pacific region, will keep close communication over regional affairs and strengthen coordination and cooperation.     The two sides decide to jointly safeguard peace and stability in Northeast Asia and facilitate the process of six party-talks.     The two sides agree that the normalization of relations between Japan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is of great significance for peace and stability in Northeast Asia. BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have ordered that supplies for the summer harvest be guaranteed amid reports of shortages in some areas.     Following their order, the State Council has asked local governments and related enterprises to prioritize supplies such as diesel, the fuel for farm vehicles, to take advantage of the best time for the ongoing wheat harvest.     Tight supplies of diesel were reported in some areas since the country began to reap the wheat crop in May as refiners experienced losses resulting from domestic prices that were kept below the spiraling international prices. It also warned related departments to impose tighter supervision over market order to cap prices.     It said more specific measures, such as providing exclusive supply channels for diesel-powered farming vehicles, handing out special filling cards for farming vehicles and direct diesel delivery to farmers, would also be implemented. BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Along with more than 3,000 teachers and students, Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening of a temporary middle school in southwest China's quake zone as the new semester started on Monday.     Beichuan Middle School was among the hardest-hit schools in the May 12 earthquake. Wen visited students and teachers at the school three times prior to the Monday event.
