BUDAPEST, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai has expressed optimism in having a better future in ties with China upon the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Bajnai described China as a reliable international partner in a recent interview with Xinhua, saying that Hungary was one of the first to establish diplomatic ties with the fledgling country.     Having visited China in November 2008, he said he has been deeply impressed with the country's dynamic development.     "The high-standard professional exchange of views with Chinese negotiation partners in the central and local governments and withbusiness leaders have already yielded concrete results in the Hungarian-Chinese economic relations, to the benefit of both countries," said the prime minister.     He welcomed the forthcoming visit of Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, saying the visit will offer an opportunity for the two sides to talk about "further significant advances in bilateral economic cooperation."     The past decade has witnessed a 17-fold rise in trade between Hungary and China, he said, adding that there had also been extensive growth in their cultural, educational, scientific and tourism cooperation.     Noting that China is one of Hungary's most significant Asian trade partners and Hungary one of China's most prominent in central and eastern Europe, Bajnai said further improvement of the relations with China has been a priority of the Hungarian foreign policy.     "Mutual investment and technological cooperation are important not only because they are profitable for businesses of both countries, but also because in hard economic times they create jobs, " he said.     He noted that China has been doing a splendid job in facing up to the challenges of the world economic depression. Hungary also did everything in its power to alleviate its impact, he said.     Both countries should "take full advantage of their cooperation in continuing to combat the crisis," he said.     Referring to the 60 years China has gone through, Bajnai said China's development, especially in the past three decades, has set an example for the world.     "My personal opinion is that China's greatest achievement has been its huge economic advances, which made it possible to significantly raise the living standards of the 1.3 billion Chinese people," he said.

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's ChangAn Auto Co., Ltd., a leading domestic auto maker, announced Saturday that its sales volume rose more than 82 percent year on year last month.     The Chongqing-based company sold 107,863 units of vehicles in July, up 82.4 percent year on year, it said in a statement to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.     The company produced 118,037 units of vehicles in July, up 64.9 percent year on year.     The Shenzhen-listed firm's shares had fallen 5.24 percent to 10.31 yuan a share Friday before the release of the report.

BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Emerging Markets magazine has named China's Finance Minister Xie Xuren as Finance Minister of the Year, Asia 2009, the Ministry of Finance said Monday at its website.     The Emerging Markets believes that China's quick and proactive fiscal policies implemented in the past year have boosted economic growth and made contributions to global economic recovery, the ministry said.     In a written interview with the magazine, Xie said since the outbreak of the global financial crisis last year, the Chinese government timely and resolutely adjusted its macro-economic polices, carried out proactive fiscal and moderately easy monetary policies, and approved plans aiming to spur domestic consumption. BEIJING, Aug. 21 -- China Mobile Thursday reported its first drop in net profit since 1999 because of rising competition from rivals China Telecom and China Unicom and its weak 3G performance.    The world's biggest telco posted a net profit of 30.1 billion yuan (US.42 billion) in the second quarter, compared with 30.6 billion yuan a year ago.     Analysts had previously forecast a net profit of 31.4 billion yuan for the period.     "A macro-economic slowdown, a rising mobile communications penetration rate and changes in the competitive environment of the telecommunications industry in China have posed challenges to the development of the business in the first half," China Mobile said in a statement.     In the first six months, China Mobile posted a net profit of 55.3 billion yuan, a 1.4 percent annual growth. Its revenue totaled 212.9 billion yuan, an 8.9 percent rise from a year ago.     China Mobile's monthly average revenue per user, a key index of the industry to monitor a telco's profitability, was 75 yuan in the first half, about 10 percent less than a year ago.     China Mobile added 35.87 million users in the first half to total 493 million by the end of June. The telco had 957,000 3G users since it started a trial 3G service in April.     In the first half, China Mobile took 66 percent of the total new additional mobile users, compared with 85 percent a year ago, due to the "changed competitive landscape," the company said.     "The gap between China Mobile and other rivals will become narrow but it will still dominate the market for about two years," said Wu Wenzhao, a telecommunications analyst of Analysys International.     In January, China issued 3G licenses to China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.

BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua)-- China and the European Union (EU) should properly cope with trade frictions, and push forward economic and trade cooperation, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said here Wednesday.     Wang was meeting with EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton, who is on her first visit to China.     "China and the EU should appropriately handle trade frictions, and fight resolutely against trade protectionism," he said.     Since late July, the EU has launched a series of anti-dumping actions against Chinese products, covering steel wire rod, seamless steel tubes, sodium gluconate, steel cables and aluminum road wheels.     "Some of China's major trading partners have shown signs of protectionism during the global financial crisis, and there has been rising trade protectionism inside the EU," said Sun Yongfu, who is department chief in charge of European affairs of Chinese Commerce Ministry.     Vice premier Wang said the two sides' top priorities at the present time should be making efforts to continuously further coordination and cooperation, jointly tiding over the global financial crisis, and facilitating the recovery of regional and international economy. Bilateral trade volume reached 425.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.     During her visit, Ashton was scheduled to meet with Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, and attend the 13th China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen city of southeast Fujian Province.

KABUL, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A China-bound Afghan plane with Kam Airlines landed on the airport of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan Sunday night, said sources of Kabul International Airport.     An official in Kabul International Airport who was reluctant to disclose his name said the plane scheduled from Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, to Urumqi of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has already landed on Kandahar airport.     "The plane would return to Kabul after two hours," he added. BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's retail sales of consumer goods totaled 570 billion yuan (about 83.5 billion U.S. dollars) during the National Day holiday, with average daily sales up 18 percent compared with the same period of last year, the Ministry of Commerce said Friday.     Sales of household appliances soared during the eight-day holiday which started from Oct. 1. Among them, high-definition flat screen TV sets, digital cameras, side-by-side refrigerators and 3G mobile phones are consumers' favorites. In the case of Kaiyuan Mall in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, sales of household appliances gained by 34.7 percent year on year. Customers are seen at a shopping mall in Shanghai, east China, Oct. 8, 2009    Jewelry and cars became hot sellers as well. The sales of jewelry of Caishikou Department Store in Beijing topped 100 million yuan, up 30 percent year on year. Car sales of major car-selling companies in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality increased by 71.7 percent year on year.     The selling boom in the home appliance and car sectors was partly stimulated by a policy approved by the State Council in June this year, aiming to spur domestic consumption by subsidizing buyers of cars and household appliances, according to the ministry.     For example, consumers can first sell their old household appliances to recycling companies and obtain a certification card from the recyclers. Card holders then can purchase new appliances with a 10 percent cut in prices when showing retailers the card.     Meanwhile, sales promotion in major cities also played an important role in the holiday consumption boom.

BUCHAREST, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived here on Sunday to start his official visit to Romania after he concluded a visit to Hungary.     In a written statement upon his arrival at the airport, Xi said China and Romania have enjoyed long-term friendship, and they have enhanced political trust, cooperation in various areas, and coordination in dealing with international affairs since they forged diplomatic ties six decades ago.     Noting that the Chinese government values relations with Romania, Xi said his visit was to cement traditional friendship and reciprocal cooperation by taking the chance of 60th anniversary of bilateral ties. BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin Tuesday urged more efforts to perfect the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China(CPC).     Speaking at a seminar to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), CPPCC Chairman Jia said the system is an inevitable choice for China to press ahead with its social and political development.     Efforts should be made to give full play to the unique advantages of the CPPCC, the top political advisory body, he said.
