BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's National Audit Office (NAO)announced on Saturday that, in 2009, no serious violations were found in the management of reconstruction funds for regions hit by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.     Auditors, however, did find some problems in the implementation of post-quake rebuilding plans, distribution of relief funds and management of reconstruction projects, said the NAO.     The NAO has transfered one violation case to the procuratorial organ in 2009. Two people responsible for the violation were arrested and another 11 people were in custody.     The NAO said it and its local offices have already released the auditing results to the public.     Liu Jiayi, chief auditor of the NAO said earlier that they would, in 2010, continue to keep a close eye on the whole process of post-quake rebuilding.

BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Thursday the peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy requires joint efforts of the international community. Li made the remarks when meeting with heads of some of the delegations attending the third meeting of ministerial level officials of the executive committee of the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership(GNEP) in Beijing.     Li said China is ready to deepen international cooperation in this respect by promoting mutual benefit and win-win of all parties. BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), urged to deepen fiscal and taxation system reforms, and improve the efficiency of fiscal management, so as to maintain steady and comparatively fast economic development.     It is imperative to continue the pro-active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy, with priority given to the implementation of policies that support domestic consumption expansion, economic growth, economic structure adjustments and projects concerning people's livelihood, said Hu at a seminar attended by members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and researchers from the nation's top think tanks on Friday afternoon.     He also called for more investment in agriculture and rural areas, independent innovation and fostering of emerging strategic industries.     More fiscal resources should be channeled to promote public welfare development and back up undertakings concerning people's livelihood, especially education, employment, social security, medical care, affordable housing construction, and environmental protection, according to Hu.     Hu also called for improving the taxation system by optimizing taxation system structure, working out a more fair distribution of the tax burden, and standardizing income distribution, in a bid to promote healthy economic development.

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China should enhance supervision and management of the country's insurance investment, said Li Kemu, vice chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC),on Sunday.     "With insurance funds were extended into disparate fields, other than bank deposit, demand for a better supervision and risk control enhanced, said Li at the International Finance Forum held in Beijing.     By the end of September, 3.4 trillion yuan (497.8 billion U.S. dollars) of insurance funds were invested in bonds, mutual funds, and stocks markets. DATONG, Shanxi, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called for renovating the hovels in urban areas and at state-owned factories and mines across the country to better the livelihood of needy people.     Renovation of all squatter homes in cities and at state-owned factories and mines should be completed in the next fives years. Those hovels at state-owned forest zones, reclamation areas and coal mines will be renovated within three years, Li told a national meeting.     Different kinds of government funds will be used in the renovation work, and private investment will be encouraged, Li said, adding that favorable tax and land policies will be implemented.     He said the renovation efforts should be open and transparent and respect the wishes of the broad masses. Efforts should be made to avoid corruption.     Li said China will promote the building of low-rent houses to meet people's basic needs for housing.     By the end of 2008, China has 11.48 million families living in hovels, 7.44 million of which live in cities, 2.38 million nearby state-owned plants and mines, 1.66 million in forest zones and reclamation areas.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- The United States welcomes the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and "more positive and stable" cross-Straits relations, said a China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday.     The statement said that both sides underscored the importance of the Taiwan issue in China-US relations.     The Chinese side emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed the hope that the US side will honor its relevant commitments and appreciate and support the Chinese side's position on this issue.     The US side stated that the United States follows its one-China policy and abides by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that "the fundamental principle of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the core of the three Sino-US joint communiques which guide China-US relations. Neither side supports any attempts by any force to undermine this principle," said the statement.     The two sides agreed that respecting each other's core interests is extremely important to ensure steady progress in China-US relations.     Both countries believe that to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust is essential to China-US relations in the new era.     The US side reiterated that it welcomes a strong, prosperous and successful China that plays a greater role in world affairs.     The two sides are of the view that in the 21st century, global challenges are growing, countries are more interdependent, and theneed for peace, development and cooperation is increasing. COPENHAGEN, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said on Tuesday that China, a developing country, has taken important measures in reducing its emission of greenhouse gas.     "China has also taken quite important measures by cutting forty to forty-five percent of energy intensity by 2020," Ban said at a press conference on the sidelines of the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen.     Ban arrived here earlier on Tuesday to open a high-level segment of the conference, which entered its ninth day of negotiations on a new global deal to push forward the fight against climate change.     The UN chief said he was fully aware of particular challenges faced by developing countries, in particular poor countries, calling on rich countries to improve their commitments in climate financing.     The climate change negotiations were now in a critical but difficult situation as developed countries and developing countries remain divided on key issues, including climate financing.     Developed countries have been reluctant to provide financial support to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to climate change. So far, they only indicated to give 10 billion U.S. dollars annually in the three years between 2010 and 2012.     Ban said developed countries should go beyond the fast-start support and also address medium and long-term financing scaled up to needs.     "I have been urging that developed countries should begin discussing the medium and long term financial support packages," he said, calling on all countries to overcome national interests or interests of any particular groups.     "That would be one of the keys in bridging the gap between developed and developing countries," he added.     Speaking at the same press conference, Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said he was encouraged by China's move to set national targets of reducing greenhouse gas emission.     "I am very encouraged by the fact that China has proposed, at this stage, nationally binding targets for mitigation which deviates from business as usual," he said.     But he added China should translate those national targets into some kind of international language.
