BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Education Ministry has asked school authorities to help students ward off influence of pornography on Internet or mobile WAP sites through educational campaigns.The ministry also encouraged students in primary and secondary schools to report Internet links and mobile WAP sites that contain "negative information", especially obscene content.Local education departments and schools should carry out educational activities tailored to different age groups, guide them to "properly handle cyber world", and enhance their understanding of the negative effect of porn websites, online violence and lewd information, the ministry said in a notice on its website.The move was the ministry's latest effort to echo the government's endeavor to crack down on pornography on Internet websites and mobile WAP sites.The ministries of public security and industry and information technology initiated a campaign in August last year to eradicate lewd contents from the Internet.Students should be taught not to make or spread lewd content online; not to enter profitable Internet cafes; not to access websites with "lewd" content; not to play lewd cyber games, the notice said.They were also advised not to use offensive and obscene languages and be careful in making friends on Internet."Lewd" content includes violence, libel, private and other information that violates standards of public decency.Public distribution of pornography is illegal in China, and the government last year began to stamp out WAP porn links to shield young people from online porn.The Ministry of Education also required schools to make regular examinations on school websites and install filter software to students' computers.Teachers should enhance communication with students and give counseling to those who incline to be obsessed in the cyber world, the notice stressed.The notice also advocates school authorities and parents to join hands in helping children establish good Internet ethics."Parents should not leave students alone to use Internet and spend more time to communicate with them." read the notice.China has more than 338 million Internet users, and more than 60 percent are younger than 30, according to the China Internet Network Information Center.

BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The Bank of China (BOC) plans to issue new Hong Kong-listed H shares, about 20 percent of its current H shares, as soon as possible, said BOC Board Chairman Xiao Gang Thursday.But the BOC had to wait for approvals from shareholders and securities regulators on the mainland and in Hong Kong, Xiao said.The BOC, China's third largest bank by market value, in January declared it would sell no more than 40 billion yuan (5.86 billion U.S. dollars) of bonds convertible to A shares to improve capital adequacy.The BOC currently had no acquisition plans in China or overseas, Xiao said.The biggest credit risks lied in the local governments' financing units and the BOC was tightening loans to these units, he said.

GUANGZHOU, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Southern Guangdong Province launched the pilot real-name ticket system Thursday morning amid China's efforts to curb ticket hoarding by scalpers.China's first real-name ticket was booked at 7:03 a.m. by phone, confirmed the ticket booking system of Guangzhou Railway Group (GRG), operator of the province's railways.The ticket, priced at 423 yuan (61.96 U.S. dollars), was for a hard berth on a train coded K446 scheduled for Jan. 30, running from south China's Shenzhen City to northwestern Xi'an City.The real-name system covers tickets of trains scheduled for the 40-day Spring Festival travel peak starting from Jan. 30. These tickets are now available as travellers can book 10 days in advance by phone.Travellers are able to dial hot lines to book tickets and get them from wickets in railway stations or ticket agencies before midnight the day after the booking.The traveller only need to follow automated voice instructions and dial in necessary information. After the booking is accepted and processed in a computerized database, the automated voice system will issue a booking code. With the code and ID card at hand, the traveller can get his ticket from wickets in railway stations or ticket agencies."This procedure is expected to prevent long queues at the windows because most of the communication is made on phone," said Huang Xin, head of GRG's passenger transport section.The National Development and Reform Commission forecast some 210 million train trips during the Spring Festival rush, a year-on-year rise of 9.5 percent.The real-name system has drawn much attention in China. It still needs to be seen whether the system can effectively curb ticket hoarding. BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- China must strengthen trade ties with Russia, Belarus, Finland and Sweden, said Vice Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng Friday, a day ahead of Vice President Xi Jinping's 11-day official visit to the four European countries.Gao told Xinhua that China had been Russia's biggest trading partner since February last year. Sino-Russian trade reached its peak in 2008, with trade volume hitting a record 58.8 billion U.S. dollars.However, the volume was dragged down by the global economic downturn last year, falling 31.8 percent year on year to 38.8 billion U.S. dollars.Sino-Russian trade volume grew 67.9 percent year on year in the first two months of 2010, which was close to the pre-crisis level, Gao said."More attention must be paid to the restructuring of trade cooperation between the two countries," said Gao.China should import more electro-mechanical and technological products from Russia and the two sides should cooperate more in resources development and cross investment.China was Belarus's biggest trading partner in Asia. Bilateral trade had grown 12-fold since 1992, when the two nations established diplomatic relations. BEIJING, March 1 (Xinhua) -- China's central government has allocated 28.6 billion yuan (4.2 billion U.S. dollars) to support farmers, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement Monday.The bulk of the funding -- 18.6 billion yuan -- would be used to subsidize farmers in growing improved varieties of crops such as rice, corn, and cotton.The other 10 billion yuan would subsidize purchases of farm machinery such as sowers and reapers, said the statement issued to Xinhua.The funding aimed to improve motivation in agricultural production, and stabilize the country's grain production, according to the statement.Farmers across the country would be eligible for the subsidies.The funding was on top of 86.7 billion yuan of subsidy funding to grain-growing farmers nationwide in February.The financial support for agriculture came as severe drought continued in the nation's west and south.The National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a drought alert on Sunday warning the severe drought would continue over the next three days.The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Saturday the drought, which started at the beginning of February, had affected 69.6 million mu (4.64 million hectares) of arable land and left 12.7 million people and 8.4 million heads of livestock short of drinking water.
