URUMQI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Diplomatic envoys from 26 countries and regions in China began a five-day visit to northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Monday, about a month after the deadly riot in the regional capital of Urumqi.     At the invitation of the autonomous regional government, they are expected to -- through the visit -- acquire a better understanding of Xinjiang's development over the past several decades in various respects, including its politics, economy, ethnic and religious policies, preservation of cultural relics and the livelihood of local residents. "Violence is not allowed in any sovereignty and law-ruled nation." 

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day.     Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. Fang reported: "Comrade chairman, assembly of the reviewing troops is completed, please review!"     Amid army songs played by a 1,300-member brass band, the home-made Red Flag limo drove eastward along Chang'an avenue, where Hu inspected 44 ground square formations composed of the three services of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police, army reserves, and militia.     His car was followed by the limo of Fang Fenghui and an alternate one.     Wearing a high-collared Mao suit, Hu repeated salutes through a microphone: "Greetings, comrades!" and "Comrades, you are working hard!" The soldiers loudly replied: "Greetings, leader!" and "We serve the people!"     Twelve echelons of more than 150 warplanes are expected to fly over Tian'anmen Square during a military parade.

BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- China appreciates India's decision to terminate a trade investigation into Chinese-made passenger car tires, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Saturday.     The decision would not only help boost the steady development of bilateral trade ties, but also benefit the downstream businesses of India, the MOC said in a statement on its website.     China hoped to increase exchanges and cooperation on trade issues with the Indian government and encouraged dialogue and cooperation among industries for mutual benefit, it said.     The Directorate General of Safeguards under India's Ministry of Finance initiated a safeguard investigation on passenger car tire imports from China in May, according to the statement.     A safeguard duty, a temporary relief, usually takes the form of increased duties to higher than bound rate or standard rates or quantitative restrictions on imports.     According to Indian government statistics, from April to December last year, India imported 20 million U.S. dollars worth of tires involved in the case from China.

BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The recent U.S. comments that China poses a military threat to itself is "totally groundless and irresponsible", Spokesman with China's Ministry of National Defense Hu Changming said Thursday.     "China's military development is always a positive factor for both regional and global peace and stability," Hu said in a statement.     The country has always pursued a national defense policy that is defensive in nature and unswervingly follows a road of peaceful development, he said.     The 2009 National Intelligence Strategy document released by the United States listed China as a challenger of the U.S. interests and described China as "very aggressive in the cyberworld."     A senior U.S. defense official also said on Wednesday that China's "investments in cyber and anti-satellite warfare, anti-air and anti-ship weaponry, and ballistic missiles could threaten America's primary way to project power and help allies in the Pacific -- in particular our forward air bases and carrier strike groups."     "We demand the U.S. side to respect the fact, take measures to correct the wrong comments and stop doing things that undermine the military relations between the two countries," he said.

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday that the role of the United Nations should be bolstered in handling the global economic downturn, achieving sustainable development, and safeguarding world peace and security. BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao vowed to stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy in the second half year to sustain stable and relatively fast economic growth.     Hu, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks at a conference with leaders of the country's leading non-Communist Parties on Thursday in Beijing.     Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and other senior leaders including top political advisor Jia Qinglin, Vice President Xi Jinping and Vice Premier Li Keqiang, attended the meeting.     Hu said the Chinese economy is generally improving because of the stimulus packages the Chinese government rolled out to weather the global economic downturn, but caution against risks should be strengthened.     The macroeconomic policies should be maintained to consolidate the current recovery to achieve the goal of eight-percent economic growth for this year, Hu said.     China's annual economic growth quickened to 7.9 percent in the second quarter of this year, mainly boosted by a 33.5 percent surge in fixed-asset investment driven by powerful fiscal and monetary stimulus. The figure was compared with the 6.1 percent economic growth in the first quarter and 6.8 percent in the fourth quarter of last year.     Hu called for thorough implementation of stimulus measures to expand domestic demand. The government tried to boost domestic demand to offset falling exports because of a slump of global demand. The measures included programs of rural home appliance subsidy and home appliance replacement and purchase tax cuts on autos.     Economic restructuring and innovation should be enhanced to ensure economic recovery, Hu said.     In rural development, Hu called for efforts to boost grain production and increase farmers' income through various channels. More investment should go to ethnic, border and poor regions, Hu added.

FRANKFURT, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- China hopes for early resumption of the international talks on Iranian nuclear issue, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei said in Frankfurt on Wednesday.     He made the remarks when he attended the six-nation meeting on the Iranian nuclear issue in Frankfurt. Vice foreign ministers from UN Security Council's five permanent members -- the United States, China, Russia, Britain and France, plus Germany met in Frankfurt on Wednesday, aiming to explore the solutions to tackle the thorny issue one day after Tehran said it would table a new package of proposals on the issue.     China welcomes Iran's "positive remarks" on seeking dialogue and negotiation on the nuclear issue, He was quoted as saying by a press release issued by the Chinese delegation, adding that China also appreciates the progress of the cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).     Last week, the IAEA, a UN nuclear watchdog, issued a report saying Iran has slowed production of enriched uranium and agreed to tighter monitoring of its enrichment plant.     The Chinese vice minister said China hopes that various sides to take advantage of the current favorable chances and to exert more diplomatic efforts to resume the international talks on the issue as soon as possible, so as to seek a comprehensive and long-term solution for the issue.     According to Chinese diplomats, Mr. He also met his Russian and U.S. counterparts Sergy Ryabkov and Nicholas Burns at the intervals of the meeting, exchanging views on the Iranian nuclear issue and other international issues of common concern.
