BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Jia Qinglin called on Friday Chinese anti-independence organizations to continue their unique role and make new contributions to the promotion of national peaceful reunification.     Jia made the comments in a meeting attended by representatives of overseas Chinese anti-independence organizations here.     Jia, head of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification, said that anti-independence organizations had played an important role in creating favorable conditions for the peaceful development of relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. They had also united overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao and especially those from Taiwan, he said.     In promoting the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, the global alliance of anti-independence organizations shouldered important responsibilities and would continue to play their unique and important role, according to Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.     He urged anti-independence organizations to oppose separatist activities in any form. He warned anti-independence groups to be vigilant against and firmly oppose separatist attempts by the ** Lama and his followers, and asked anti-independence organizations to boycott the infiltration of "Tibet-independence" forces.     He also extended a message to those who had proposed "Taiwan independence" or had participated in or followed "Taiwan independence" forces, saying they were most welcome to return to the track of promoting the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations.

ASHGABAT, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here late Tuesday that China and Turkmenistan have enjoyed healthy and steady development in bilateral relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992.     Li made the remarks in a written speech at the Ashgabat airport after arriving in the Central Asian country for a three-day official visit. BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- China said Wednesday that boosting regional trade and investment was a crucial task for countries in east Asia.     Premier Wen Jiabao also called on countries in east Asia to "deepen financial cooperation and infrastructure construction to increase the ability to confront economic risks." During talks with his Thai counterpart, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Wen said China would always support the leading role the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) played in east Asia. DAMASCUS, April 26 (Xinhua) -- During his Middle East tour, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Sunday put out a five-point proposal to push forward the Middle East peace process and common development.     Yang, who has visited Egypt, the Palestinian territories, Israel and Syria, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua that China has been closely following the situation in the Middle East and he has made in-depth exchanges of views with concerned parties on various issues of the region during his Middle East visit. The Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip at the end of 2008 has brought heavy casualties and instability to the region, which shows once again that if the Middle East issue is not been fundamentally solved, there will be no peace and security in this region, he said.     Currently, Israel has formed a new government and the two main Palestinian factions have been holding talks under the mediation of Egypt. Under such circumstances, Yang put the five-point proposal, which includes:     First, the concerned parties should adhere to the peace talks, and firmly promote the peace process on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, the "land for peace" principle, the "Road Map" plan, and the Arab peace initiative, Yang said.     Second, the parties should take positive measures to restore stability and accumulate mutual trust, so as to create conditions for the development of peace process.     Third, China believes the two-state solution should be maintained and calls for an early establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the two countries of Palestine and Israeli live in harmony.     "This is the ultimate way out for the Palestinian issue, which can give guarantee to the Middle East peace and security," Yang said.     Fourth, the international community should continue to pay due attention to the Middle East issue, and deliver its supports to the peace talks, the inner-Palestinian unity and economic growth.     Fifth, the peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel, Syria and Israel, Lebanon and Israel should advance in a coordinated way in order to achieve comprehensive peace across the Middle East region, Yang said.     "As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will continue to maintain close communication and coordination with parties concerned to play a constructive role in pushing for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Middle East issue," Yang added.     He said he has enunciated China's position on current Middle East issues during the trip. He hoped relevant parties could stick to the peaceful negotiation and accumulate mutual trust in a bid to advance the Middle East peace process.     He said he believes his visits to the four Middle East nations will contribute to the peace process.     Yang left the Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday after meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem.

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China did not lose its advantages in foreign trade despite global downturn and could retain foreign trade level above the global average once global economy recovered, a senior Chinese official said Saturday.     Yi Xiaozhun, vice commerce minister, was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit that ended Saturday in Beijing.     Though China's foreign trade would not rise sharply as it did in the past few years, the country did not lose its foreign trade advantages thanks to policies to stimulate domestic demands, Yi said.     He said China had been diversifying foreign trade and reported increased trade with countries in Africa, Middle East, middle Asia and Latin America.     Yi also called for halt on protectionism, saying that protectionism had been picking up and about 40 percent of anti-dumping cases and 70 percent of anti-subsidy cases targeted China.     He called for pushing forward the Doha round negotiation, which he believed was key in fighting against protectionism.

He took part in the CPC-led Peasants' Movement and joined the Party in the 1920s.     In 1927, Li led a group of peasants to join in the Huangma Uprising. Later, he became a member of the CPC-led Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and played an important role in strategic battles and maneuvers of the Red Army.     During the Long March, Li supported Zhu De and other senior leaders in resolute struggle against the splittist activities of Zhang Guotao.     In China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45) and the Liberation War (1946-49) against the Kuomintang Regime, Li became a ranking officer in the CPC-led armed forces and fought a large number of major battles and established several revolutionary bases.     After 1949, the year the People's Republic of China was founded, Li served as vice premier for 26 years and played a big role in managing the economy. He was wrongly criticized and persecuted during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976).     Starting in the late 1970s, as a core member of the second-generation of CPC leadership headed by Deng Xiaoping, Li assisted Deng in ushering in and carrying on the reform and opening-up drive.     In his final years in service, Li held top-level Party and state roles, including vice chairman of the CPC Central Committee, a Standing Committee member of the Political bureau of the CPC Central Committee, state president, and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
