BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China is to launch a two-year campaign to fight corruption and misconduct in the construction sector, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Monday.     The move aimed to crack down on offences such as embezzlement, bribery and misconduct in the construction sector and improve the system to prevent offences.     Zhang Geng, SPP deputy procurator general, said the procuratorates nationwide had investigated 16,830 bribery cases in the sector from January 2006 to June 2009, accounting for 46 percent of all commercial bribery cases during that time.     The campaign will focus its efforts on offences such as corruption resulting in substandard construction and giving the green light to construction without a permit.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday urged more efforts to push forward the rejuvenation of the country's northeast and other traditional industrial bases.     Great progress has been made in the regions since China launched the rejuvenation move more than five years ago, said attendees at a meeting of the leading group of the State Council, the Cabinet, for revitalizing the northeast and other old industrial bases. LJUBLJANA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu arrived in Slovenia on Wednesday evening on a two-day official visit to boost economic cooperation between the two countries.     Hui, who was accompanied by a strong business delegation, will on Thursday hold talks with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor, President Danilo Tuerk, Parliament Speaker Pavel Gantar and Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar. UNITED NATIONS, July 29 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here on Wednesday that he was pleased with what China is doing to contain climate change and what the Asian country will do in negotiations that will lead to an agreement at the Copenhagen summit on climate change in December.     Ban told his monthly press conference that "I was pleased that (Chinese) President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao assured me that China wants to seal a deal in Copenhagen in December and that China will play an active and constructive role in the negotiations to achieve this end."     During his meeting with the Chinese leaders, "we also agreed on the importance of global leaders showing the way and discussed in detail the Climate Change Summit in New York on Sept. 22," Ban said.     "I wanted to highlight the special responsibility of countries like China to lead the global fight against climate change, as well as highlight all that China is doing," he said.
