Shen has been a farmer her whole life. She is the only person to serve at all 13 National People's Congresses since 1954. It was she who proposed the clause on "equal pay for equal work" between men and women, which was written into China's first constitution in 1954.
She also criticized the council as a "hypocritical and self-serving organization," saying that it has rendered membership to unworthy nations and harbored "disproportionate focus and unending hostility towards Israel."
Shen Dingli, professor of international relations and executive dean of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, rejects this notion.
She said that she was thrilled by the thought of one day joining them.
She called on the government to roll out more regulations to protect the intellectual property of research-based drug manufacturers to foster innovation.
She, in the meantime, expressed confidence that Hong Kong will brave through the epidemic and tackle the economic downturn.

She said she has noticed there are already some roads painted with colorful bike signs.
She said local governments should serve as pilot sites and be innovative. "We often see that cities will be really innovative and at the forefront. That gives political backing to the state, and the state can pass legislation and (issue) executive orders," she said.
