BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Premium of China's insurance companies hit 1.02 trillion yuan (149.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of this year, up 11.65 percent from a year earlier, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission Thursday.     The year would be the first year that China's insurance premiums exceeded 1 trillion yuan, data from the commission showed.     From January to November, premium of property insurance rose 22.28 percent year on year to 264.02 billion yuan, and that of life insurance was 757.66 billion yuan, an annual increase of 8.37percent.     The commission said the country's insurance firms were expected to eye combined profits at 46.09 billion yuan in the first 11 months, an increase of 57.45 billion yuan over the same period of last year.     Profits of the country's insurers nationwide was about 26.1 billion yuan in the first half, up 98 percent, the commission said in July.

BEIJING, Jan. 7 -- China's central bank Wednesday said it will manage inflation expectations and keep a close watch on the property market through its credit and money supply policies.     In a statement on its website, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said it would try to maintain ample liquidity in the financial system, and ask banks to lend more evenly, while strictly implementing credit policies in the property sector.     The nation will also take steps to rein in fast-rising property prices and strengthen credit controls for the sector, according to Housing and Urban-Rural Development Minister Jiang Weixin. Shares of China Vanke Co, the country's largest listed property developer, have fallen more than 12 percent in the past month on concerns that the measures to cool the property market would impact earnings. Poly Real Estate Group Co, the second largest real estate firm, also saw its shares fall to a four-month low.     Meanwhile, a report from UK real estate service provider Savills said that the tighter credit policies and soaring realty prices have spurred property sales by international investors. Many of the investors had acquired the properties several years back and have been able to get handsome returns now, it said.     "Sales by foreign investors increased from 7 percent in 2008 to 20 percent in 2009," said the report.

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Wednesday said China will broaden international exchanges and learn from other countries in heritage protection.     "China will strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international organizations," Liu said at a ceremony held here Wednesday marking the 30th founding anniversary of China's National Commission for UNESCO.     "The Chinese government will keep carrying out international conventions and actively explore scientific laws and effective methods in heritage protection," Liu said.     China will stick to the principle of "preservation first" and avoid over-exploitation and destructive construction, Liu said.     China is a country with rich cultural and natural heritage. So far, a total of 38 heritage sites in the country have been included in the World Heritage List, and 29 kinds of non-material cultural heritage have been included in the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama said here Monday that the United States would further expand its youth exchanges with China by dramatically expanding the number of students studying here to 100,000.     Obama said during a dialogue with Chinese students in Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Monday afternoon that young people in China and U.S. are the best ambassadors and that cooperation between the countries should go beyond the governments.     "These exchanges mark a clear commitment to build ties among our people, as surely as you will help us determine the destiny of21st century," he said.     Shanghai was the first leg of Obama's maiden trip to China on Nov. 15-18 since he took office in January.     "I believe strongly that cooperation must grow beyond our government. It must be rooted in our people, in the studies we share, in the business we do, in the knowledge that we gain, and even in the sports we play, and these bridges must be built by men and women just like you, and your counterparts in America," Obama told an audience of about 600 university students in Shanghai.     "I am absolutely confident that America has no better ambassadors to offer than our young people, for they just like you are filled with talent, energy and optimism about the history that is yet to be written.     "So let this be the next step in the steady pursuit of cooperation between our two nations and the world," Obama said.     After delivering the opening remarks, Obama took questions from students as well as the Chinese online community, covering a wide range of topics such as Sino-U.S. cooperation, cross-Strait relations and anti-terrorism in the U.S..     The White House website Sunday posted a notice of Obama's meeting with Chinese youth, saying that holding the event in Shanghai was symbolic as the Shanghai Communiqué was announced here and helped pave the way for normalization and the first 30 years of formal diplomatic relations.     "If there is one thing we can take from today's dialogue, I hope that it is a commitment to continue this dialogue going forward," Obama said in his speech.

CAIRO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Friday, starting a two-day official visit to Egypt preceding a top-level review of action to build China-Africa cooperation.     Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef received Wen at the airport.     During his visit, Wen is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and hold talks with Nazef. He will also meet with Arab League chief Amr Mussa, and deliver a speech at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.     This is Wen's second official visit to Egypt. The first was in 2006, which marked the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomaticties between China and Egypt. SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said here Monday the U.S.-China cooperation enables both countries to be more prosperous and more secure and that young people are the best ambassadors.     Obama had a dialogue with 500-strong Chinese college students Monday afternoon in the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, a highlighted activity in the first stop of his four-day maiden trip to China since taking office in January.     He covered a wide range of topics, notably the outlook of Sino-U.S. cooperation and youth exchanges between the two countries, while delivering opening remarks and answering questions from the students and Chinese Internet users.     POSITIVE SINO-U.S. TIES     Obama said China is a nation that encompasses both a rich history and a belief in the promises of the future and that the same can be said of the relationship between the two countries. The Shanghai Communiqué signed 37 years ago opened the door to a new chapter of engagement between the governments and the people of the two countries, he said.     "Today we have a positive, constructive and comprehensive relationship that opens the door to partnership on the key global issues of our time: economic recovery, development of clean energy, stopping the spread of nuclear weapons and the surge of climate change, and the promotion of peace and security in Asia and around the globe," Obama said.     "We have seen what is possible when we build on our mutual interests and engage on the basis of mutual respect."     The success of that engagement depends on understanding, on sustaining an open dialogue and learning about one another and from one another, he said.     "Our relationship has not been without disagreement and difficulties. GUANGZHOU, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to maintain basic stability and continuity in the economic policies and RMB exchange rate to ensure a foreseeable prospect for its businesses.     Minister of Commerce Chen Deming made the remarks Sunday at the Canton Fair, an important barometer of China's foreign trade, in Guangzhou City, capital of southern Guangdong Province.     In the following months, China would maintain stability of the macro-economic policies, stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, Chen said.     Meanwhile, the RMB exchange rate should also maintain relatively stable so that domestic manufacturers and exporters can better predict and adjust to the market, Chen added.     Chen said the number of participants to the fair and the trade volume showed China's foreign trade was recovering, but uncertainties remained.     Chen urged Chinese enterprises to enhance their competitiveness with better quality and lower cost by technological upgrading and restructuring. "Next year, our focus will be on the quality of export products," he said.     "Enhancing competitiveness with better product quality and brand-building is also an effective way of avoiding trade protectionism," Chen added.     In the previous three quarters this year, 19 countries and regions have launched 88 trade remedy investigations against Chinese goods, totaling 10.2 billion U.S. dollars.     "In addition to the recovering export, China's import is also on the rise, contributing significantly to the recovery of the world economy," Chen said.

BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China should enhance supervision and management of the country's insurance investment, said Li Kemu, vice chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC),on Sunday.     "With insurance funds were extended into disparate fields, other than bank deposit, demand for a better supervision and risk control enhanced, said Li at the International Finance Forum held in Beijing.     By the end of September, 3.4 trillion yuan (497.8 billion U.S. dollars) of insurance funds were invested in bonds, mutual funds, and stocks markets. Bonds investment alone accounted for 50.6 percent of the total.     Jiang Dingzhi, China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) Vice Chairman also highlighted the importance of establishing a "all-coverage" financial supervision system.     He suggested the country broaden the financial supervision and management system, which would put the mutual funds, hedge funds, and credit risks appraisal agencies under control.     The new system requires financial institutions to share information, and also cooperate to fill the supervision blanks between different financial markets, he said.
