This year marks not only the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China but also the establishment of the CPPCC.     The book consists of 142 important documents which are divided into three volumes. Some documents are being made public for the first time. BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong has asked schools to educate students comprehensively about national unity during recent a tour to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.     Liu said teachers should play a guiding role in helping students become "forceful practitioners, loyal promulgators, and strong guards" of national unity.     Great efforts should be made to develop education, science and technology, and culture in Xinjiang, Liu said. BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday called for efforts to intensify energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection to ensure clean, safe and sustainable development.     Li made the comment at a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, urging efforts on development of green industry and sustainable economy.     He said environmental protection should be strengthened as the environmental problems in China are still severe, such as the water, air and soil pollution.     Li said China's economy is still at a critical moment as it begins to recover steadily. BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day.     Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- China on Sunday issued a regulation for the country's disabled military personnel to ensure them a guaranteed living after retired from the military.     Jointly promulgated by military authorities and Ministries of Finance and Civil Affairs, the regulation pledges that military personnel who gets disabled because of war, work or illness will be rearranged to other working positions by the government after retirement.     The retired disabled veterans will also be provided with a certain amount of compensation fee according to their different levels of disabilities.     Other welfare include medical care subsidy and a basic housing allowance of at least 100,000 yuan (14.706 U.S. dollars) to each disabled veterans, the regulation said.     Non-commissioned officers at junior grades who are diagnosed as mental illnesses and enlisted soldiers who are diagnosed as disabilities from level I to level IV will be sustained by the government for the rest of their lives, it said.     The regulation is the first of its kind in China.

BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Monday it would extend anti-dumping duties on phthalic anhydride imported from the Republic of Korea, Japan and India for another five years after review investigation.     Phthalic anhydride is an important industrial chemical mainly used in the mass production of plasticizers for plastics     The imported phthalic anhydride would cause damage to Chinese industries should anti-dumping duties be lifted, said the ministry.     The duties took effect Monday.     On Jan. 7, China imposed anti-dumping measures on phthalic anhydride to offset negative impact on domestic producers.

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday published a regulation to enforce environmental evaluation on new projects from October, in an effort to prevent pollution or ecological destruction from the beginning.     According to the regulation, approved on Aug. 12 by the State Council, the Cabinet, environmental evaluations are required before the planning of development projects being approved.     Under the regulation, environmental evaluation of city-level projects will be conducted by local environmental authorities while provincial projects must be evaluated by environmental authorities under the State Council.     The regulation covers all development activities, from land use and the development of rivers or oceans, to development projects related to industrial, agricultural, husbandry, and forestry sectors as well as energy, water conservation, transportation, urban construction, tourism, and exploration of natural resources.

BEIJING, Sept. 7 -- Automobile sales in China may accelerate 28 percent from a year ago to reach 12 million vehicles this year and overtake the number of autos sold in the United States, according to a regulatory official.    The remark was made by Chen Bin, chief director of the industry coordination department of the National Development and Reform Commission, at a conference in Tianjin on Saturday.     In contrast, General Motors Co and Ford Motor Co forecast sales in US will be about 10.5 million units this year, Bloomberg News said.     Auto sales in China in the first half reached 6.09 million units, a rise of 17.7 percent from a year ago, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.     The government's stimulus measures have boosted the auto industry and demand which is set to stay robust, Chen said. The measures included a 50 percent cut in the purchase tax to 5 percent on vehicles equipped with engines of less than 1.6 liters.
