WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Pentagon said Monday that five detainees at U.S. Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, want to confess to conspiracy charges for planning the 9/11 attacks.     Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the "architect" of the attacks, and four co-conspirators asked a military judge if they could withdraw all pending motions and plead guilty, Pentagon spokesman Gail Crawford told reporters.     The judge accepted the request but ruled that "competency hearings" are first needed for two of the five, Mustafa al Hawsawi and Ramzi bin al Shibh, because "questions exist as to their competency to stand trial," he said.     Meanwhile, Denis McDonough, a senior adviser to President-elect Barack Obama, told media that no decisions have been made by Obama about what to do with the 255 inmates presently held at Guantanamo.     "There is no process in place to make that decision until Obama's national security and legal teams are assembled," he said.     Sources close to Obama team said the incoming administration is considering putting some of the inmates on trial in existing federal courts, setting up a special national security court to deal with cases involving sensitive intelligence, and releasing other inmates.

MACAO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Saturday said here that Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) should promote its long-term economic diversification.     Xi, who paid the first official visit to Macao since assuming the office of Chinese Vice President in March 2008, made the remark when meeting with the SAR's Chief Executive Ho Hau Wah and 113 representatives from all walks of the local society in the Macao East Asian Games Dome. The land-strapped SAR has long been requesting a part in its development.     Xi arrived in Macao earlier this morning, starting his two-day visit to the island city. They would first be transported to Sichuan's provincial capital of Chengdu, about 120 km from Ya'an, and then be flown to Taiwan.     Before their departure, the pandas had their breakfast – carrot and steamed corn buns.     A brief ceremony was held at the Bifeng Gorge Base in Ya'an before the pair's departure.     Zhang Hemin, director of the giant panda protection center, said at the ceremony he hoped the pair would bring happiness to Taiwan compatriots.     The 4-year-old pandas, Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, have been living at a breeding base in Ya'an, Sichuan Province, since the May 12 strong earthquake which damaged their former home in Wolong.     Qu Chunmao, the pair's keeper in Ya'an, spoke in tears, "I wish them a happy life in Taiwan."     A Taiwan keeper, who would accompany the pair to the island, said the pandas were in good condition.     "They had a good breakfast to sustain them on the long journey," she said.
