BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the country's top aircraft manufacturer, said Sunday total sales revenue in its auto business would reach 30 billion yuan (about 4.39 billion U.S. dollars) by 2017.     Geng Ruguang, deputy general manager of AVIC, said making big passenger vehicles has become the the corporations's guiding plan for development in its auto business.     Geng revealed the figure at a ceremony marking AVIC and its partner Volvol's new product Silver 900 series going into production line.     The series is a new type of big and luxurious passenger vehicles, 12 meters long, which could be used for road transportation, tourist reception, and military equipment.     The Silver 900 series was developed by Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation, a joint venture established in 1994 by AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry Co. ltd, and the Swedish bus and truck maker Volvo company.     The Xi'an Silver Bus Corporation expects to produce annually 4,000 vehicles by 2014. URUMQI, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The 9th China Xinjiang International Agricultural Fair opened in the northwestern city of Urumqi Wednesday, attracting 110,000 business people from around the world.     Representatives with 987 companies from 15 countries and regions have arrived to attend the three-day event, which features exhibitions of fertilizers, pesticides and seeds, the organizers said in a press release.     It would be the largest fair compared with the previous eight sessions in terms of its visitors and scope, the organizers said.     "The fair is held against the backdrop of global financial crisis and the July 5 riot," the press release said. "The organizers will arrange activities to promote Xinjiang's agricultural products that have not been selling well due to the aftermath of the riot."     The riot in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has left 197 people dead, mostly innocent civilians, and more than 1,600 others injured.     But business people still hope to cash in on the vast market opportunities of Xinjiang, which takes up a sixth of Chinese territory, as Urumqi is gradually recovering from the violence.     "Our company entered the Xinjiang market in 2005 selling fertilizers and has won a wide recognition of local farmers," said Gu Rongbao, manager of the Jinlaifu Chemicals Import and Export Co. "We have confidence in the future development in Xinjiang."     The annual fair is jointly organized by the regional government's departments of agriculture, animal husbandry among others.

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top three telecommunication operators, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, invested 80 billion yuan to boost the third-generation (3G) network so far this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said Wednesday.     China Mobile, the leading mobile network operator, has opened 3G service in 38 companies based on the domestically-developed TD-SCDMA 3G standard, and is expected to expand the service to 238cities by the end of this year.     China Telecom has also offered 3G service using the U.S.-developed CDMA2000 standard in 342 cities, while China Unicom has expanded its network based on Europe's WCDMA standards to 100 cities.     The top three operators have started trial 3G operation, which allows mobile phone users to download data faster, make video calls and watch TV shows.     The ministry expected the three operators would invest 170 billion yuan (24.87 billion U.S dollars) in 3G network construction this year.     China's top three telecommunication operators are expected to invest 280 billion yuan in 3G products and network construction from 2009 to 2010, said Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of China Mobile Communications Corporation here Wednesday.     It is estimated that the growth of China's multimedia industry, e-commerce and cultural creative industries stimulated by the 3G technology will generate at least 2 to 3 trillion yuan of social investment, Lu said in addressing 2009 China-UK Internet Roundtable Conference Wednesday.     According to China Internet Network Information Center, the country's Internet users reached 338 million by the first half of this year. URUMQI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior government official said Friday the situation in Urumqi, the capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was under control after local residents had taken to the streets over two days to protest against hypodermic syringe attacks.     There were no major protests in the city Friday, a day after massive protests that left five people dead Thursday, said Executive Deputy Mayor Zhang Hong. BEIJING, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's State Council, or the Cabinet, issued a new regulation Wednesday targeting prevention and remedies for marine pollution caused by ships.     The regulation, which includes nine sections and 78 rules, said transportation departments under the Cabinet should compile emergency plans to deal with pollution caused by ships or related activities.     Once the plans are completed and have been approved by the Cabinet, coastal governments above city level should map out emergency plans based on one proved by the State Council.     China's transport departments and governments above city level have also been asked to establish emergency mechanisms and plans to prevent and deal with marine pollution.     Marine management institutions should cooperate with other departments to improve monitoring and supervision over the activity of ships and pollution caused by them     Professional teams to deal with emergencies, specialized equipment and facilities should be organized, according to the regulation.     Anyone who is responsible for marine pollution should make efforts to eliminate the pollution hazard and make compensation.     The regulation will take effect on March 1, 2010.     Official statistics say 733 ship pollution accidents occurred between 1998 to 2008 in sea areas in China's jurisdiction, which led to huge economic and environmental losses. The regulations will apply to every type of shipping, except military.

BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- State-run companies in China should stick to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Vice President Xi Jinping said Monday.     Xi made the remarks at a meeting held here to promote Party building in China's state-run enterprises.     Party building lay at the core of the competitiveness of state-run enterprises, Xi said, adding that "the CPC's leadership over the enterprises should be upheld unswervingly... in order to help enterprises retain scientific development".     Li Yuanchao, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said at the meeting that bosses of the state-run companies headquartered in Beijing should increase the Party organs' involvement in the companies' decision-making process.     Party organs should participate in the process of the state-run companies' major decisions made by the companies' board meeting to ensure that they could play supervising functions, Li said.     Meanwhile, He Yong, deputy secretary of CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), urged the bosses of the country's state-run companies to be cleanhanded.     Restrictions and supervision over power should be intensified for the main leaders of the companies, He said, adding that the anti-corruption effort inside the state-run companies was an important part of the mechanism's construction.     The state-run companies' bosses should also enhance their discipline education and loyalty to the Party, the official said.     The anti-corruption effort in the state-run companies came after former chairman of Sinopec Chen Tonghai was sentenced to death last month with a two-year reprieve for taking huge bribes.     Chen took about 195.73 million yuan (28.66 million U.S. dollars) in bribes from 1999 to June 2007 by taking advantage of his positions in Sinopec, one of the country's major oil refiners.     Also present at Monday's meeting was Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang, who stressed that the top priority of state-run enterprises at the moment was to maintain steady and relatively fast development.
