BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang's upcoming visit to three nations would help advance bilateral relations between China and the three nations, said a senior official here on Monday.     "The visit will cement and promote our political mutual trust and traditional friendship," Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told Xinhua.     Li will pay an official visit to Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea from Oct. 29 to Nov. 5 at the invitation of governments of the three countries.     "This is an important visit paid recently by Chinese leader to the south Pacific region," He said, noting that the three governments attached great importance to the visit.     During the visit, Li will meet with the leaders of the three nations, attend the signing ceremony of bilateral agreements and make extensive contacts with officials of local governments, businessmen and peoples from all circles, according to He.     The visit would help promote friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between China and the three countries in trade, energy, resources, science, education and other fields, and strengthen bilateral coordination in international and regional affairs, he noted.     Hailing the considerable progress in recent years, He said the Chinese government had always attached great importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with the three countries.     "We always grasp the development direction of bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, adhere to the five principles of peaceful co-existence, and stick to the spirit of mutual benefit to strengthen our dialogue and cooperation," He noted.     "Seeking peace, development and cooperation is our common voice," He said, noting that in many ways, China's relations with the three countries faced a huge potential and rare opportunity for development.     He also provided detailed statistics to show the growth of bilateral relations, saying that economies of China and the three nations were highly complementary.     Australia is China's eighth largest trading partner and an important supplier of energy resources. Bilateral trade volume with Australia in 2008 reached 59.66 billion U.S. dollars.     New Zealand is the first developed country which signed and implemented the bilateral free trade agreement with China. Both Australia and New Zealand recognized China's full market economy status.     Papua New Guinea for many years is China's largest trading partner and investment destination in the Pacific island region.     According to incomplete statistics, at present, there are 130,000 Chinese students studying in Australia, and about 34,870 studying in New Zealand. The people-to-people exchanges between China and Papua New Guinea is also very active.     "Facts show that the development of the relationship between China and these countries has a solid foundation, and accords with the common interests of both sides," He noted.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States on Tuesday called on Iran to "engage constructively" with the P5+1 and to "cooperate fully" with the IAEA to facilitate a satisfactory outcome.     The call was made in a joint statement issued here after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides reaffirmed their strong support for a comprehensive and long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiations.     "The two sides agreed that Iran has the right to peaceful uses of nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and it should fulfill its due international obligations under that treaty," said the statement.     The two sides welcomed the talks in Geneva on Oct. 1 between the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and Iran as "a promising start" towards addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear program, and expressed their readiness to continue that engagement as soon as possible.     They emphasized in the joint statement that all efforts should be made to take confidence building steps and to call on Iran to respond positively to the proposal of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- China will maintain its pro-active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy to buoy the economy in 2010 as many uncertainties persisted at home and abroad, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Sunday. Averting the trend of falling global demand remained difficult, Wen said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.     "Economies of some countries are starting to pick up, but fluctuations are still possible," Wen said.     "China's economy has been on track for recovery. However, the economic performance and operations of enterprises still mainly rely on support from government's policies," Wen said.     "A consolidated recovery in the country's economy does not point to a complete revival and a full revival does not mean China's economy is developing in a sustainable way," Wen said. "The government's economic stimulus package has proved effective."     China's economy grew 8.9 percent in the third quarter, the fastest rate in a year, after expanding by 7.9 percent in the second quarter and 6.1 percent in the first three months, boosted by the massive government investment and record bank lending.     The People's Bank of China, the central bank, scrapped lending limits of commercial banks in November last year.     In the first 11 months of this year, new bank loans hit 9.21 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.06 trillion yuan over the same period last year, far exceeding the full year target of 5 trillion yuan the government set in March.     The government pledged at the Central Economic Work Conference earlier this month that it would stick to the pro-active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy in 2010 to sustain a recovery backed by the stimulus package.     The government would adjust macro-economic policies in line with the changing economic situation and study issues arising during implementation of such policies, Wen said.     China would gear more investment to social welfare, technical innovation and energy conservation and emission cuts next year, Wen said.

MACAO, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Sunday that the cause of "one country, two systems" is an important part of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, stressing that "the great motherland is always a strong back-up force for the prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao."     Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks when delivering an important speech at the celebration gathering marking the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.     The advance of the great cause of "one country, two systems" calls for the joint efforts of the central government, the governments of the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR as well as people of all circles, the president noted.     The central government will remain firmly committed to the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong", "Macao people governing Macao" with a high degree of autonomy.     The central government will continue to act in strict accordance with the basic laws of the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR and give full support to the chief executives and governments of the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR in their governance according to law, he said.     The president pledged that all policies adopted by the central government on BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's energy saving and environmental protection industry would hit 2.8 trillion yuan (412 billion U.S. dollars) by 2012, said Xie Zhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission on Sunday.     Those sectors have become a new economic growth point and have bright prospects in China, Xie said at the fourth China-Japan Energy-saving and Environment Protection Forum which began Sunday.     He said the government will beef up investment in the construction of resource recycling projects, which will directly boost the industry development.     He noted the government will further reform the pricing system of the resource products.     Enterprises should also enhance innovation to break technological bottleneck notably in the development of clean coal transfer technology and pollutants treatment facilities.     China has been pushing for a national energy saving campaign to address the worsening conflicts between economic growth and environmental deterioration.

As for arrivals, eight were canceled and nine delayed, said the spokesman of the department of News Relations from the Hong Kong's Airport Authority. BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's industrial output is expected to grow by about 16 percent year on year this month and in December and the full year industrial output growth could reach around 10.5 percent, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Yizhong said here Saturday.     At the 3-day International CEO Roundtable conference, Li said the industrial output growth would guarantee the manufacturing-based Chinese economy should achieve its full-year growth target of 8 percent.     China set the about 8-percent growth target in March this year. The government believes 8-percent GDP growth is essential to generate enough jobs.     According to the minister, China's industrial economy stopped falling and began to stabilize and recover in March this year. In October, China's industrial output rose 16.1 percent from a year earlier, the fastest pace since March 2008 and the sixth consecutive month with an acceleration of year-on-year growth.     Li said the industrial output in October had climbed to the level in June last year, which indicated a V-shaped curve of the recovery of the industrial production activities.     Other figures, such as rising company profit, surging power consumption, and increasing export orders, also pointed to the notable recovery of China's industrial production, he said.     Li also cautioned that the recovery base of China's industrial production was not solid and some industries and companies were still faced with production and operation difficulties.     He said China should continue its efforts to restructure its economy and change growth pattern by promoting innovation and technological upgrading, conserving energy and cutting emissions, and integrating information technologies with industrial development.     According to the minister, the industrial production accounted for 43 percent of China's total GDP in 2008 and contributed 42.8 percent to the GDP growth last year.     Thanks to the global financial crisis, China's economy cooled to its slowest pace in seven years in 2008 and expanded 9 percent from a year earlier to reach 30.07 trillion yuan (4.4 trillion U.S. dollars).
