Shanghai, which in 2013 began promoting the etiquette of standing on the right and walking on the left, is not the first city to abandon the norm. Many cities in China, including Tianjin, Xi'an and Nanjing have dropped the practice.
Several primary roads, including the Panamericana Sur, or South Pan-American Highway, sustained damage, temporarily blocking or restricting the flow of vehicles, and electricity was disrupted in a few communities.

Shanghai has also strengthened its capabilities in the fields of investments and financing. Data from the Shanghai Financial Services Office showed that the city's total amount of direct financing surged 25.8 percent year-on-year to reach 9.6 trillion yuan (.4 trillion) in 2018, suggesting the figure quadrupled from the level 10 years ago. What's more, Shanghai accounted for over 85 percent of China's total direct financing last year.

Shanghai has been operating a maglev train line based on Sino-German technical cooperation between a metro station in Pudong new area and Pudong International Airport since 2006. The 30-km journey takes roughly eight minutes with the train running at a maximum speed of 430 km an hour.
Several ministry-level departments, including those responsible for health, railway operations, and agriculture and rural affairs, have responded recently to issues of public concern.
