SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping put forward a four-point plan to cement China-South Korea ties when he met South Korean Prime Minister Chung Un Chan here on Thursday.     Xi said China and the South Korea were neighbors and the relationship had been promoted since they established diplomatic ties in 1992. The exchanges of the visits by the two heads of states last year upgraded the relations to strategic and cooperative partnership, which benefited both countries and helped promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.     Xi's proposal to foster the Sino-ROK relationship was:     -- To enhance high-level contact and political trust:     The two countries should also increase exchanges between the governments, parliaments and parties. Xi called on the two sides to complete joint research and initiate free trade agreement negotiation.     -- To increase personnel exchanges:     The two sides should further improve exchanges on education, culture and tourism and properly handle the issues concerning the sentiments of the two peoples.     -- And, to strengthen coordination in multilateral frameworks, including the meeting mechanism of China, South Korea and Japan:     On the situation on the Korean Peninsula, Xi said all relevant sides should take the chance to show flexibility to resume the six-party talks at an early date.     Xi also said China would push for the Copenhagen climate change conference to achieve a result in line with the "Bali Roadmap."     Chung Un Chan pledged to complete the joint research on free trade agreement as soon as possible, and advance coordination with China under the G20 and the framework of China, Japan and South Korea.     Xi arrived here Wednesday night after a visit in Japan. He will also visit Myanmar and Cambodia.

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese vice premier Li Keqiang has called for efforts to build the South-to-North Water Diversion Project into a water-efficient and environment-friendly project.     Li made the remarks at a meeting held by the State Council on Tuesday, saying the government should stick to policies regarding resource-conservation and environment-protection in the construction work.     Li ordered relevant departments to intensify their efforts on pollution control and eco-environment protection in both the water source area and areas along the project in the course of construction.     Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed that a good job on the resettlement of residents is essential.     Addressing the meeting, vice premier Hui Liangyu ordered attaching great importance to quality and safety, strengthening pollution treatment and properly resettling local residents.     Launched in 2002, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, consisting of eastern, middle and western routes, is designed to divert water from the water-rich south of the country, mainly the Yangtze River, to the dry north.     By the end of October, the government has invested 34 billion yuan (or 4.98 billion U.S. dollars) in the eastern and middle routes, and part of the project has contributed to alleviate the water strain in Beijing.

BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The annual per capita GDP in Beijing was expected to top 10,000 U.S. dollars in 2009 as the national capital expected an over 9.5 percent economic growth for the same year, said an official with the municipal economic planning agency Thursday.     Beijing expected to rake in financial revenue totaling 202.7 billion yuan (about 29.8 billion U.S. dollars), up 10.3 percent year on year, said Zhang Gong, head of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Committee.     The income of urban and rural residents were estimated to rise by 9 percent and 12 percent respectively in 2009 compared to 2008 figures, said Zhang.     Government policies and investment had helped boost local industries amid the global downturn, Zhang said. The city's industrial added value was expected to grow by about 8 percent and the service sector by more than 10.5 percent in 2009, accounting for 73.5 percent of Beijing overall economic strength.     Beijing also strengthened infrastructure construction in 2009 to raise its capability for sustained development, Zhang said. The length of highways and track traffic lines in operation reached 884 kilometers and 228 kilometers respectively currently. The city still has 276.7 kilometers of track traffic line under construction, he said.     The annual per capita GDP in Beijing was more than 9,075 U.S. dollars in 2008 and the figure was 7,370 U.S. dollars in 2007.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States have agreed to continue dialogue and cooperation in macroeconomic and financial policies as the recovery of the global economy remains unsteady, Chinese President Hu Jintao told the press here on Tuesday after his talks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     Hu said he and President Obama exchanged views on the current global financial situation and held that given the positive signs of the recovering global economy, the foundation of it was far from solid.     "We both agreed to properly handle trade frictions between the two countries through negotiations on an equal basis, and to make concerted efforts to boost bilateral trade and economic ties in a healthy and steady way," said Hu.     "I stressed to President Obama that under the current situation, both China and the United States should oppose and resist protectionism in all forms in an even stronger stand," he said.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's premium income hit 936.09 billion yuan (137.1 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 10 months, according to China Insurance Regulatory Commission.     The figure represented an increase of 78 billon yuan, or 9.09 percent, over that in the first nine months.     During January to October period, premium of property and casualty insurance was 243.18 billion yuan, and 692.9 billion yuan, respectively.     Total asset of the country's insurance sector stood at 3.83 trillion yuan by the end of October.

When there is an emergency, our mainland staff always could not go to Taiwan promptly," she said.
