Since then, China has announced measures to rein in surging export growth. It repealed rebates of value-added taxes on more than 2,000 types of goods ranging from cement to plastic products in June. Last week, the government said it would limit the growth of its "processing trade," a big but low-profit segment of the economy that imports components and exports finished goods.Paulson was due to leave China on Wednesday.

In this period, he was promoted from a technician to engineer and vice manager. He served as deputy director of the Shanghai No. 1 Bureau of Mechanical and Electrical Industry between 1982 and 1983. From 1983 to 1984, he served as member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and secretary of the Municipal Industrial Work Party Committee. From 1984 to 1985, he served as Standing Committee member of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and concurrently as secretary-general of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. Between 1985 and 1986 he was deputy secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. BEIJING - Only 7.6 percent of migrant workers in China are satisfied with their social status, according to a survey carried out by Shanghai's Fudan University.The survey, which questioned 30,000 migrant workers in major Chinese cities, found 68 percent of migrant workers believed urbanites did not fully accept them or accept them at all.The report also showed that working overtime was common for migrant workers - more than 80 percent worked more than eight hours a day and 18 percent worked more than 10 hours.Only 16.4 percent of migrant workers had more than five days a month off and 55 percent had less than two days off a month, it said.Working overtime with little holiday made migrant workers tired so accidents easily occur, it said. Exhaustion prevented them from having time to study thus few opportunities were available, it added.All these factors made migrant workers unsatisfied with their urban life, it concluded.The report also revealed that China's migrant workers' incomes rose in 2007.Their average monthly wage reached 1,200 yuan (US5) in 2007, up 200 yuan over the previous year, said the report.But still 22.2 percent of migrant workers were unable to save money as their incomes were only just enough to cover their living expenses.About 44.6 percent migrant workers hoped to continue to work in cities and 17 percent hoped to find jobs in Beijing or its surrounding areas, it said.China has about 200 million migrant workers across the country.

Foreign trade in east China's Shanghai port rose 20.3 percent year-on-year to 91.06 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of 2008, official statistics show.     The figure accounted for 24.9 percent of the country's total trade value of 365.93 billion U.S. dollars from January to February.     Exports climbed 17.2 percent, 20.7 percentage points lower than the period from a year earlier, to 58.59 billion U.S. dollars. Mechanical and electronics products accounted for around 60 percent of total exports.     Imports jumped 26.3 percent, 10.8 percentage points higher from the same period last year, to 32.47 billion U.S. dollars, the Shanghai Customs said.     The surplus rose 7.6 percent to 26.12 billion U.S. dollars. The rate was 66.1 percentage points lower from a year ago.     Export growth slowed as the Spring Festival holiday and the strongest winter blizzards in five decades closed factories and disrupted transport. The government policies introduced last year to reduce surging surplus also contributed to the slower pace, as shown in the steel and garment sectors.     Imports, however, accelerated their pace as China bought more commodities and farm produce at higher prices. Through the Shanghai port 549,000 tons of agricultural products were imported in the two months, an annual increase of nearly 30 percent. Their average price was up 24.7 percent from a year earlier.
