China's capital, Beijing, announced a revised version of the household registration policy on Wednesday for public opinion collection starting Wednesday and ending on June 12.
Starting in 2018, non-native Beijing residents who meet certain qualifications can apply for Beijing's household registration system, called hukouin Chinese.
According to municipal authorities, about 12,000 applicants have gained Beijing hukouin the past two years. Up to 98.6 percent of them have been lived in Beijing for more than 10 years.
The revised edition of the policy has improved the requirements on education, residential location and age, which means more people might have the chance to apply.
In April 2018, Beijing launched its points-based application system for household registration after three years of investigation and research preparation in advance, a move to meet the demand of non-native Beijing residents to stabilize their living situation in the capital.
The points-based application policy will be an annual routine, but the scale will change accordingly to the number of applicants each year.
